We've spent years building high-volume, multi-server systems for different applications — including WordPress. We know what it takes to handle traffic spikes, manage distributed infrastructure, and keep things running when thousands of requests hit your servers simultaneously.
Through our SEO work, we also learned just how much images matter to Google. They're the heaviest part of any page and a massive factor in Core Web Vitals. Unoptimised images tank your LCP score and frustrate visitors on slow connections.
We also know that serving images directly from your origin server is a quick way to drain your bandwidth — and in multi-server setups like ours, hosting static files on the origin server often isn't even possible. You need a CDN. But setting one up properly with WordPress? That's where the real headache begins.
We tried everything. ShortPixel, Imagify, Smush, EWWW, Jetpack's CDN — you name it, we've configured it. Some worked okay for small sites. Most required endless tweaking. And when it came to offloading assets to a proper CDN with global edge locations? That meant juggling even more plugins, DNS records, and configuration nightmares.
The problems we kept hitting
Plugins that do everything except what you need
Most image plugins try to do too much. Compression, lazy loading, CDN, WebP — all bolted together with settings pages that take hours to configure correctly.
CDN setup is a maze
Setting up a CDN for WordPress requires different configuration, plugins, and DNS settings depending on the provider. And if you get it wrong, your images break.
Gaps in coverage
WordPress generates srcset for standard images, but CSS backgrounds, dynamic content, and page builder elements don't get the same treatment. And there's no WebP or AVIF conversion built in.
Scaling is an afterthought
Most solutions work fine for small sites. But when you're managing dozens of client sites or handling traffic spikes, everything starts to fall apart.
Why proper image optimization is so complex
Most people don't realize what "optimized images" actually requires under the hood.
One image needs JPEG, WebP, AVIF versions — each in multiple sizes for different screens. That's 20+ files per upload.
Storing all those variations on your hosting triples your storage usage. Or you generate on-the-fly and hammer your server.

The real math
A single 2000×1500 photo needs: 3 formats (JPEG, WebP, AVIF) × 6-8 responsive sizes = 18-24 files. Upload 50 images and you're suddenly managing over 1,000 files. That's insane complexity that nobody should have to deal with manually.
